Meetings
Had my first major meeting with our main customer - The Lubricant Business of Petronas. They were quite demanding and very particular with the specs of our blends. Lotsa raised voices and plenty of quick witted explaining during that meeting. It was all friendly and all... but quite scary at times. guess this is how business is done. They always get the newest guy to do the minutes so this time I've got to do the minutes eventhough most of the things discussed made no sense to me at all. Then again, it's a good way to learn i guess... Email didn't work today at work. ITs tried to fix it the whole day. hope it's fixed by tomorrow...

F1 Promo
F1 Promo in front of KLCC yesterday... Weather was good at the start (while we were waiting!) but slowly deteriorated after the cars came out. The drizzle was kind of a blessing in disguise as I managed to get into the front row!! The stretch of road infront of KLCC was closed and was actually resurfaced the night before this event! It was a lil bit more grand this year as it was the 10th year of Petronas' involvement in F1. There was a concert outside the twin towers on Saturday night as well... a bit short of time but enjoy the pics!
PS: i couldn't upload all of the pics cos my connection is acting up lately.. but watch this space tomorrow for a few more Massa action pics...

Started my Familiarisation program, getting to know the fascilities around me better. Man.. there are so many tests and equipment used to develop lubricants! t'll take me a while to get used to all this. Nevertheless, all the technicians are all nice and friendly ppl so i guess that'll help. Lotsa industry secrets I now know but shall not disclose anything here.
Ahmad from the Orientation program joined us for the familiarisation program today. He's attached to the Technical department of Petronas Dagangan - Petronas' Product marketing arm. He's the front end of the technical staff, actually interacting with the end consumer.
Do I look like a football player? This guy at work keeps on trying to get me to come down and play football with the rest of the PRSS guys. The Annual Inter-Business games for all 6 of Petronas' main business is gonna be held in may so they're all training hard for that... guess i'll just come down just for the sake of exercise..
Fact of the day: The Statue of Liberty is made of copper, hence it's original colour is copper colour (shiny brown-yellow). the Green colour you see now is because of oxidisation of the copper (copper rust).
Pics attached are from the 2 week orientation i went to last month. have tonnes of more pics to upload so keep your eyes peeled for updates.
Good night everyone.

Symposium
PRSS hosted the 3rd Asian Petroleum Technology Symposium last week from Wed till Friday. I was not directly related to Fuels as it was mainly a fuel technology symposium (I'm a lubricant guy) but i guess i was 'expendable at the time. SO i was absorbed into the secratariat team to help organise the event. The event was sponsored entirely by JPEC - a Japanese firm. People that attended came from all over asia, mainly locals, Japanese ASEAN countries and Hong Kong. The week long stay equated to lotsa hotel food sampling. We stayed at 'The Palace of The Golden Horses' in Mines, quite near to PRSS. Apart from boring conference/symposiumy stuff, highlights included a charming 'Networking Dinner' which i patriotically wore a full Baju Melayu to, a dinner at the KL Tower and a visit to Petronas' Motorsport Museum. All very cool activities. Pics are only a few of the occasions i could actually take pics. Now it's back to normal life. Atleast i've got internet access and a phone at work tthough i've yet to get my Petronas email set up. I'm also getting my name card printed this week so that i can give some out soon
Long week ahead this week. Think i'd better catch up on some lubricant basics so that i actually know more about my work... need more excersice!!

Back From Orientation
Got back from the New Executive Orientation yesterday. Still loads of Sleep to catch up on... First late day since starting to work. left PRSS at about 8pm today. There's a symposium on petrol stuff we are hosting later this week so lotsa prepreations to do although fuels is not my area but i guess I'm 'expendable' at the mo. Met my direct boss today for the first time. He's not as scarry as i thought, quite talkative actually...
Missing the time at the Orientation. Had lotsa fun there, met new friends, learnt new things about Petronas and about working in general... very well worth it. I wish all companies could afford to send all there new recruits for a 2 week orientation too cos there are no words that could explain how useful it is. It has helped me launch my working life with more direction than most others and the 66 other people that went through the same orientation as me are the first of my contacts among the 30,000 plus Petronas workforce. Too many pics to upload but will try to upload some soon. just not much time these days...

I'm sure everyone in thier childhood had one time or another made or at least seen a paper 'helicopter' before. Yesterday I took the opportunity of the CNY holidays to work at Petrosains agaan just to meet up with the guys there. so... we did paper helicopters as part of our 'mini show' and it was an effective one, everyone loved the little things. But as the day went by my fellow volunteers and fascilitator asked ourselve if we've ever explained how the helicopter works.. hmm... everyone said .. no!! well, heres my theory of how it works. I'm using a free body diagram as taught from SPM physics through A-Level physics and throughout my Uni degree... Basically my theory says that the spinning motion is due to the resultant force in the X-Axis pushing at opposite directions (to balance out the forces in the X-axis) but acting a distance, 2d appart thus creating a torque and causing the blades to move in a circular motion... I hope this makes sense. there are no aerodynamic trickery or boyle's law to mess around with, only simple mechanics and force air resistance exerts on a body. hope the diagrams made sense though... it was abit of a quickie...

KLCC
Spent only half a day at PRSS today. Hadto get my security pass done at headquarters in KLCC. Cunningly disapeared from the office 30 mins before lunch time to try to make it for lunch with a friend at 1 ish... made it fairly on-time. Actually forgot to pay for the food as we were so engrossed in our conversation. Luckily my mate took caare of the bill later that evening.. i only remembered after half way reaching home!! Cheers Aizan for that yeah!
Right, the whole security card thing only took about 15 mins. Hardly worth the whole afternoon i too koff work but there isn't any work to be done at work anyway. How does that work? Well.. i ended up going up to level 76 where my friends were at and we took over the Pantry room for a good hour plus.... Managed to sneak a pic from one of the window of KL Tower. the KL skyline is quite beautiful if it weren't for the perpetual blanket of haze spoiling the picture . First day driving my newly painted car to work. Interior still smells of paint so most of the driving today was done with the windows down (morning only!!). I think the colour i chose is alright. beats the drab white of the original car.
Happy Chinese New year to all my chinese friends!!!

3rd day of work....
Still no desk nor computer. Still.. i brought my laptop along so i did have something to occupy myself with. Ended up reading a past year project on the SAE car i was part of last year. Wanna go through it before i help the UTP guys out with it. Hope they're doing well with the sponsorship part of it...
Did remember to bring my camera so i do have some snap shots to upload.. again, when i can find the time to do it. Main development today was that i found the PRSS library and it's just the floor below mine!! spent a good part of the morning reading mags like far eastern economic review and time magazine. Will be my permanent hang out place in the mornings to read the newspapers and magazines... perfect!
Nothing to look forward to tomorrow... looking to see if i can work at Petrosains during part of the chinese new year/ awal muharam holidays... need to be around young people...
