Language

My sis got back from doing the Umrah in Mecca last Friday. She was there for 11 days. While she was there she regretted not practising her Arabic Language when she was at skool. I learnt arabic when i was in primary skool for about 2 odd years. I know a minuscule amount of arabic... It's a shame cos i sincerly think that knowing many languages is a really advantageous thing. On sunday the was this program on tele about a few people that are multi lingual. When i say multi lingual i mean knowing more than 4 languanges... Gosh.. I so envy people that can speak lotsa languages. I pick up languages very slowly... wish i was better. or maybe I need to practise more or better still go for classess... i dunno. Had quite a good start to the week. I hope it's likewise for you lot too.

By the way, One announcment. I'm in the middle of organising an informal get together for all Alumni from the University of Leeds that are in Malaysia. The meet will most probably be held at the Leeds Uni South East Asian office here in KL. There have been suggestions to have it on the 31st of Jully which will be a Sunday. So... any Leeds grads interested please let me know either by emailing me, adding a comment here or personally messaging me. We need alot of support to get this off the road. So try to make the 31st Jully free yeah guys.

He he bagus belajar bahasa Arab, even saya sendiri pun skang sdang amik kelas bahasa Arab utk org dewasa Sun 19-Jun-2005 02:18

It seems that what a friend said to me in one of her emails turns out to be quite true. When you're busy it seems that you have no time for everything that you want to do. But when you have not much to do, you just don't seem to be in the mood to do much... I'm experiencing just that right now. It's probably partly due to the 5 day break i had from work and the fact that I spent 2 days as a tourist guide for my relatives that came to visit from Singapore... Post holiday syndrome I call it...
By the way... to those that read my post, please don't comment on the frequency of my posts. This is MY fotopage, my little space so I'll write what I want, when I want. Any weired comments will be removed!

On a lighter note, I'm posting a sequence of my best pics form my years with the Leeds Uni Formula Race Team. This post is on F7, my first forray into the work of motorsports! Enjoy!! Next Up will be the glory days of F8!!

Weekend's around the corner, YAY!! !

School hols are here in Malaysia... how does it affect me you ask? Well.. inbigger ways that one might first think. Firstly and most importantly: the roads are ALOT clearer than usual. Yes... thi means that i can leave home at 7 and still reach the office at 7.30!! That's unheard of during normal days. 2ndly, Workload is a bit less i guess cos alot of the bosses and technicians are on leave to take thier kids on holiday... Well... to be honest, depends on how you look at it. I'm sure the TS guys will suffer a little as the lab tests will take longer to complete due to a reduced workforce. lastly, the roads on the way back are really congested!! supprising isn't it. My theory is that alot of people are coming home early to be with thier children. who knows. Well.. that's life in KL for you.

Pics posted are of the previous friend's wedding. Was a really good get together with my old school mates from primary and lower secondary school. Looks like we're at an age where the only time we get to meet all our old friends is when any one of us gets married!! so who's next!!?? Gosh.. next thing you know we'll be all meeting at our children's weddings.. wow... that's a thought!!

Last day of the week tomorrow. Petronas is closed for business on Friday as Saturday is a public holiday and we get Saturday off anyway so they replaced it with Friday!! I love it when we get the day off when other hafta work!!

Warning! may contain elements of geekness...

Argh!!! Enterprise (Star trek) has been canceled!! Yes folks.. no more enterprise next season!! just watched the season finale just now and it looks like the end was kinda abrupt and the writers clearly had to whip up an ending on a very short notice.. ah wel... quite alot of other series i watch are ending or have ended. Smallville has just ended for the season. Last episode was pretty good as all smallville season-end cliff hangers... 24 is is ending sreally soon too. don't know if that's ending for good or just for the season. Jack Bauer can't be saving the US of A in a day too often..! Fifth Gear has ended for the season too. Gilmore girls probably is ending soon as well. I guess the new Stargate will start soon. The Apprentice season 3 ended quite predictably with Kendra becoming the next apprentice. But oh... oh... on a lighter note, the bestest program in the world has started a new season!! Yes folks, for those who know me yes... TOP GEAR has started!!!

Those who don't know me yes, you guessed right.. i do watch alot of TV... but selective programs i should enphasis.

Weekend.. parents got back frm NYC. Lotsa nice pics of Washington DC, Niagra falls and NYC.. they even got a pic of Trump International Hotel!! hahaha... I managed to upgrade my laptop hardisk last Sat. Since the warranty had expired i thought i'd give it some extra disk space. it came with 40 gigs but that's hardly enough for all my MP3's and Pics & vids. I also wanted some extra space for the paging files windows uses and lets not forget hardisk technology has progressed this past year. the Old Hard disk was a Hitachi Travelstar, 4200 rpm, 40 gigs with 2mb cache. I bought a 60 gig unit with 8 mb cache and spins at 5400 rpm! Changing the HD wasn't that hard the hard bit being the part where i had to reinstall windows and all my programs again.. but all my personal touches to the computer ie: favorites eg. I managed to transfer to my new 'system'. Bottom line: I can notice a significant improvement in the performance and responsiveness of my laptop. And i think it has given my year old Lifebook more... erm.. life!! hehehe What happened to the old HD? Bought an external case and turned it into an external HD! Next step is more RAM!! it's not critical so i'll wait a while before i do that upgrade. I also hear that you can overclock these Pentium M babies... might look into that too.. Anybody want to upgrade their laptops?

Work tomorrow. I have to do a time write... ie write down how may man hours were spent!! i think that's a bit erm... government like.. well, i didn't expect that from Petronas!! *sigh* nite2 everyone.

woww... ... computer whiz laa afif ini... can you upgrade my laptop?? hehe... i want!! i want!! Thu 26-May-2005 00:05

Long Weekend!!

This is why we don't get lotsa anual leave... We get long weekends every month!! A welcome break from all the tension and hard work this week! plus my parents are coming back from little bro's graduation on Sunday. Teleconference yesterday with the US guys was ok... played tennis to kill the time after work till the 9 pm teleconference. Wasn't directly involved with the discussions anyway. finally got my pc back so i can finally get more things done. Planning to upgrade the hard disk of my laptop this weekend... Thought i'd do it myself. Ah.. the bi anual staff forum is tomorrow and all the new staff have to introduce ourselfs to the whole company (PRSS) thank god there's only around 400 staff at PRSS.... Watching the revenge of the Sith tomorrow... can't wait for the weekend!!!! have a good weekend everyone!!

Access and VBA

Didn't know access with VBA was such a powerful combination!! I've been assigned this task to develop a database program for my work place - to store all our "secrets"... Problem is.. I'm getting very emersed into it and my day just flies by... seems like there're not enough working hours in a day!! Choi.... dun want more working hours deffinately. But there seems to be so much more to do. I'm stuck with trying to change properties of a subform using code but VBA doesn't seem to be able to find the subform when i run the code... damn... I hate it when i run into problems like this... but i'll savour the moment i conquer this slight setback ..
I'm almost 1/3 done and some other colegues are trying to get me to do more database/programing stuff... seems like i'm turning more like a software engineer than Automotive engineer! Ofcourse I'm not really doing hard programing stuff... just using MS Access & Excel together with VBA to customise the software... sleepy... nite2

Rain...

Rain... we get alot of it here... To think since rain is a given here one would think that everything here is rain proof. But NOOOO.... everytime it rains I rush to get on the road ASAP if i'm at work. Some roads in Malaysia actually flood if it rains a tad longer than usual, most roads have parts that hold water resulting in some lanes rendered useless unless one has a range or land rover. This annoys me cos this results in major traffic jams... well.. being stuck in traffic jams isn't so bad now cos i have a new sound system in the car but still, i'd rather spend my extra 30 mins or so doing somethin better like errm.. blogging rather than being stuck in traffic!

Enuf of that. Today was quite a good day. got quite alot done whilst still managing a quick nap in the afternoon! Managed to complete (well, almost complete) the minutes to last Thursday's meeting at KLCC, managed to get down and dirty with a solder and multimeter fixing my optical mouse and in the afternoon i managed to do something significant with my access database for lubes... VBA is not so hard after all... a little help from the help files and a little tinkering with the predefined routines and Bob's your uncle! Even managed to aimlessly browse my Friendster network for some comical relief. All in all an ok day...

Government has raised the price of Petrol again effective midnight tonight. Price has risen by 10 sen a litre now. Still cheaper than most of our neighbours though. We did get some heads up by our mates at Petronas Dagangan late this evening but I went home before i could get a response from the dude at Dagangan. So tonight has been a fill up frenzy! hope they don't rais petrol prices some more after this... if they do i think they should raise people's salary cos a raise in fuel prices will effect the prices of everything!... that's Malaysia for you guys....

Ello afif....
Hahah... agak lucu gak ler a mechanical engineer doing some geeky programming stuff. But hey, you've always been a geek all this while anyways. So this is a good chance for you to actually get payed for being a geek muahahha!!!
Anyways... here's my 1 month survival list:
-Mamee(yg pack of 5) kari, ayam
-Brahims (yg dah ada daging) for jenajalan + 5peket 4 me
-Perencah megi black peper(2) + perencah megi sambal ikan bilis(2)
-Milo 3-in-1 sebungkus
-Twisties ungu + coklat
-ayam brand -> tuna + ayam utk sandwitch... (utk jenjalan)

And one last thing, would it be ok if we used your camera for the week ?
