Food for the mind
|
|
Started the day quite slowly - as its getting more of the norm these days. I go to bed after subuh prayers which is at 1.25 am these days but still manage to automatically wake up at 8 am or in today's case earlier!! Why!!?? It's not like i have any urgent things to do!! but i does take me about half an hour to properly get out of bed. Did manage to enrich my mind a lil today though. BBC's breakfast had this guy who wrote this book called 'a beautiful mind'. It is about enhancing your 'beauty' by beautifying you mind, the way you think etc. Every body knows i hardly read unless totally necessary but i think this book might be worth a read. I'll see how much it costs on Amazon...
The morning's mental stimulation continued via the internet with my sudden interest in malaysian history, the Malay people and the language we speak. Came accross this page wich provided me with about an hour of reading - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Malaysia . It has links to other related entries which in turn has more links... and it goes on almost for ever!! Learnt about the origins of the Malay ppl and the language, the history of Malaysia, the Baba & Nonya differences between Bahasa Malaysia and Bahasa Indonesia, between Manglish and Proper English and much more. If you're reading this and have the time, go check the link out.
Packing has been statick since Sunday/Monday morning. Still not printed my project for the IVechE competition. I do need to sort out ordering boxes for shipping my stuff. Mon's shipping her stuff with me since the more boxes we take out between us the cheaper it is. But my word does she have a lot of stuff. Alot of clothes she hasn't even worn curtosy of a particular sister of hers.. Speaking of Mon, we all had a 'good bye' BBQ out side hers to say goodbye to all our friends. that was good, will post pics later when i find time.
Results are coming out in 2 days time!! Feeling really nervous!! What if i mess up a few exams!!?? what if my project was crap!!?? what if my Viva didn't really go well but just felt like it went well?? so many components to the equation. Doesn't help that i didn't really peform well last term due to one near failure. That brought my average plummeting. Oh well, we'll just hafta wait and see. Pray hard Afif.. pray hard....
External examiners are coming to the department tomorrow and we, the finallist have to all be there.. for reasons i am still unclear of.
Just occured to me that the European Formula Student event is on the weekend before graduation! Hmm... not a problem for me but my parents will be here and i do want to be with them but at the same time i wanna be with the team as i didn't go to the US event an May. Dilemmas never cease in my life... another compromise decision that i hafta make that has always been drilled in our engineering course... in real life engineering, everything's a compromise...
Well, I think this is already a very long post. Better get myself doing something related to the things i've been talking about.. It's going to be a long day today...

Today was the MSD Officer's cup Tennis competition. Didn't really train hard for it. I had only played 2 times after leaving tennis since leaving college. Thought that it'll be a good laugh so i decided to join. I probably will not play tennis for a looonng time now. The shoulder injury i had for like the past 6 months has come back and all that hard serving and fast swings just helped aggrivate it further. Managed to get into the semi finals though so at least all that pain is sort of being rewarded for.
My housemate - Nick has left with the bulk of his stuff home and will be back in about a week's time to move into their new house. I'll be hanging out at thier place until my parents come sometime in the second week of July. I've now decided to get my tickets for the 23rd of July - a friday so that it'll be convenient for my parents to pick me up from the airport. Plus i can get a lift from a friend to the airport on that day!! Well, since that's basically sorted, i really need to get rid of all the junk in my house. I gave a pair of shoes i didn't particularly like (cos they were too big) to Nick. I do have a few other computer stuff to sell and also... i've gotta get rid of my bike. Will put some flyers up at uni to see what kind of response i get.
Most guys from Taekwondo have or will be leaving Leeds soon. Kinda feel sad but inevitable... Speaking of which, one f the photos from our 'training' sessions turned out quite well. I've posted it with this posting Lately most of us have been messing around during training and taking lotsa pictures. I sometimes indulge in these activities from time to time.
Got an application form for a PhD position at Leeds on Thursday. Might try to see if i can get funding for a PhD. if i get the position, i might reconsider staying. But that's rather a long shot.
More and more things on my to do list are not being crossed out. Falling quite behind schedule. Need to print out my project again for this project competition the IVehE is organising. winning prize is £500 so i guess it's worth a try. Plus, i can claim the printing and binding costs from Petronas!! cool isn't it! So i'll do that tomorrow.
A good friend of mine is back from a break in France. Can hang out together again tomorrow . A flurry of sports activity on tomorrow. The England-France Euro 2004 match, The Canadian F1 GP, the LeMans 24 Hour race and the Catalunya Moto GP race. Might well be glued to the tele all day tomorrow!! But now, i shall get my rest. All that tennis is very tiring. The bed is calling out to me....Nite2 guys.

Every day seems to go by so fast these days. I have so much to do everyday nowadays. Managed to put up a to-do list for stuff i want doing till Sunday. Managed to get most of the things on the list done yesterday but still... a few things are going to be carried over to today.
Been spending the last few days re building my 'Pedal box' again in prepreation for yhe European Formula Studant event in July. It takes up the better part of my day and there's not much time for other stuff But things in that department are going quite wel with minor design changes seeming to go quite well. The SAE compound where we work is supprisingly clean and tidy. Great chance for me to take a few photos of 'how it should look'. I'll probably create a mess when i work but hey, at least i put all the tools back!
Been trying to sort out my flight back to Malaysia. my parents are coming over for my graduation and there was talk of me going back with them. Now i think that it's gonna be a bit of a hassle and a rush so i think i'll come back a week later than them. 23rd or 24 - a friday or saturday flight. friday might be good actually.. but should i take the morning or evening flight? I'll hafta wake up really early for the morning flight which is a bit of a hassle... might see when's the evening one. Any suggestions guys?
The colours awards dinner was really good. Eventhough it was held in the Uni refectory they did manage to make it look quite posh. it was a four course meal and was probably the best vegy meal i had in Leeds!! everything else was abit hmm... not quite my taste.. like the starter and the desert.. But who's complaining? I got in for free!! he he he As i am on the committee, they treat us to a lil something at the end of the year. 2 guys from Taekwondo recieved awards. Jay recieved the Gryphon award for winning every competition she takes part in and Nana recieved a White Rose award for exceptional service to the club. Naturally, i didn't get anything...
been starting to pack these few days now. Man.. i have so many boxes!! little boxes i mean. And i have so much junk in my room! haven't finished packing yet. want to get my stuff shipped before the end of the month. I'll probably hafta ebay off some stuff and maybe give away some other stuff as well.. it's so complicated...
Anyway, I'll hafta get on with today's list of things to do now. My internet has issues with uploading photos. We'll see how it goes. If not I'll upload them when i get to Uni...
